Our Story
By Anslee Wilson 01 Jan, 2020
On July 13, 2018, we discovered that my mom, Angel Wilson had a tumor on her knee. Earlier that year, Angel fell at a fundraising event and suffered a knee injury that would later be diagnosed as Osteosarcoma. This was only the beginning of a tedious journey. Our family made the tough decision to take Angel to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX to give her the superlative care she needed. Angel had always lived by and quoted the phrase “FAITH over fear”. Mike and Angel lived in Houston for about 10 months, during this time they had family and friends visit but came home when doctors allowed them to. Within four weeks of them moving to Houston, we made the decision for me to start my freshman year of college at Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi. This was a tough decision but in all was best for our family. The diagnosis was Osteosarcoma and would prove to be a grueling battle. Osteosarcoma is a rare form of bone cancer and even more rare to be diagnosed in a 44-year-old female. Angel received many rounds of chemo-therapy to kill the tumor and eventually had surgery to remove the tumor on January 4, 2019. The surgery was successful and the surgeon was able to remove all of the tumor and Angel had clear margins. There were lots of emotions that day but after eight hours of apprehension in the waiting room and finally receiving the good news, we cried and praised the Lord for watching over our sweet Angel during her surgery. From this day forward we formed a different outlook of this situation and worked more each day to get Angel cured. Angel was in remission until March 7, 2019 when the cancer re-occurred in her lungs. This was extremely heartbreaking but we kept our hopes high and continued stretching our hearts to God. Throughout this journey Angel always put her faith over her fear. On May 22, 2019 Angel was called home to heaven and was completely healed. This was the end of her painful journey and since that day, God has given our family and friends more peace and comfort than imaginable. This is our story and we know that there are many more out there so please share! Thanks for reading.
